Λίγες ώρες δουλειάς με αμοιβή όσο όσο αναζητούν πλέον οι άνεργοι, με αποτέλεσμα να εκτιναχθεί η μερική απασχόληση. Χαρακτηριστικό της απόγνωσης είναι το γεγονός ότι 973.000 άνεργοι (το 78,1% του συνόλου) είναι διατεθιμένοι να εργασθούν ακόμη και με μερική απασχόληση, σύμφωνα  με τα στοιχεία τηςΕλληνικής Στατιστικής Αρχής (ΕΛΣΤΑΤ).

Όπως προκύπτει από τα στοιχεία του ΙΚΑ για την απασχόληση τον Ιούλιο του 2014, παρατηρείται αύξηση της μερικής απασχόλησης κατά 38,83% στις κοινές επιχειρήσεις, σε σχέση με τον Ιούλιο του 2013.
