Σε  δραστική μείωση των  υποκαταστημάτων του μέσω της συνένωσης λειτουργικών μονάδων  προχωρά το Ίδρυμα Κοινωνικών Ασφαλίσεων (ΙΚΑ).

Σύμφωνα με τη Διοίκηση του Ιδρύματος, η εξέλιξη αυτή κατέστη αναγκαία  εξαιτίας της μείωσης του προσωπικού κατά 40% τα τελευταία 3 χρόνια και της αύξησης του όγκου εργασιών λόγω πολλαπλασιασμού των αιτήσεων συνταξιοδότησης, και της ένταξης στο ΙΚΑ-ΕΤΑΜ του συνόλου των ασφαλιστικών ταμείων κύριας σύνταξης των μισθωτών.
