Η Κίνα αναδείχθηκε για έκτη συνεχή χρονιά ως ο κορυφαίος παραγωγός χρυσού σε όλο τον κόσμο. Όπως μετέδωσε το κινεζικό πρακτορείο ειδήσεων, Xinhua, επικαλούμενο στοιχεία της Κινεζικής Ένωσης Χρυσού, η παραγωγή ανήλθε στομέγεθος ρεκόρ των 403,05 τόνων.

Το συγκεκριμένο επίπεδο παραγωγής που επετεύχθη, αποτελεί αύξηση της τάξης του 11,66% σε σύγκριση με το προηγούμενο έτος. Η Κίνα ξεπέρασε το 2007 τη Νότια Αφρική στην παραγωγή χρυσού και έκτοτε παραμένει στην πρώτη θέση παγκοσμίως.

Είναι όμως και ο δεύτερος μεγαλύτερος καταναλωτής προϊόντων χρυσού στον κόσμο μετά την Ινδία. Το 2011 καταναλώθηκαν (αγοράστηκαν υπό τη μορφή προϊόντων ή ράβδων) 760 τόνοι χρυσού από τους Κινέζους!
